Waterbound Kaitlyn of Scot, MH (Katie)
November 16, 1990 – July 5, 2005

Katie became a member of the Teague family when she was eight weeks old, and the love she gave is emblazoned on our memories forever! She was the catalyst for us to meet some great people, some of whom have become lifetime friends. Roy & Cindy Cone, breeders, introduced us to Dr. Mary Tatum who served as Katie’s vet along with all our other dogs. Mary introduced us to Ron & Marcia Wood, professional trainers, and it was Ron who trained both the handler and Katie. With only one JH in her entire pedigree, Katie earned her AKC Master Hunter Title at an early age. Ron knew when to ‘push’ and when to ‘back off’, and Katie passed 4 of 5 junior tests, 4 of 4 senior tests and 5 of 6 master tests. Handler error cost Katie a perfect MH, she had the ability.

We joined the Brazosport Retriever Club, Inc. in Houston shortly after it was formed and became charter members of the Waterloo Amateur Retriever Club in Austin. Thru these affiliations, we’ve met wonderful people who love their dogs and the retriever sport, and we will be forever grateful for these friendships…..all started by Katie.

She was one of the ‘birdest’ dogs we’ve ever seen. She loved to hunt all waterfowl and upland game birds. Whether it was geese, ducks or pheasants in the Texas panhandle outside Nazareth, ducks in a frozen rice field in Arkansas, doves over a bountifful sunflower field outside Brenham, or her favorite rice field on the Lissie Egypt Prairie outside Garwood, she loved the birds and loved to please us. Curled up in her favorite rocking chair or curled up by me in the field, she was a joy!

Katie lost her battle with cancer, and there will never be another ‘Katie’ for the Teague family. But we’ll never forget our beloved, snow white, loving and talented friend and what she gave us.
